Irish music star Sharon Corr has reached a financial settlement with her husband after their marriage break-up.

However, the Sunday World has had to fight to bring news of the agreement into the public domain.

Corr, a member of family supergroup The Corrs, split from her husband Gavin Bonnar in 2019 after 18 years of marriage. The couple, who have two children, have now finally agreed the terms of their separation.

As part of this, a hearing was held last month at the Equity Court in Belfast. Among other matters, the Equity Court deals with the financial arrangements put in place when a couple spilt up.

A Sunday World reporter linked in remotely using the Sightlink system to last month’s hearing in Belfast. However, shortly before the case began, the reporter’s access was cut.

When the access was restored a short time later, the hearing involving Ms Corr and Mr Bonnar had ended.

When the reporter enquired why the remote access link had been cut off, he was told by a court clerk it was their understanding the media was not allowed to report on such cases.

However, this is wrong and there are no such restrictions in place.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service (NICTS) later admitted the reporter’s access to the hearing should not have been cut off. The Sunday World asked for a transcript or recording of last month’s Corr/Bonnar hearing but was told none existed.

However, the NICTS did provide details on the outcome of the hearing.

A spokesperson said the judge was informed by the couple’s legal representatives that a settlement had been reached between the parties.

The couple have not spoken publicly about their break-up.

But in an interview with the Sunday World in 2021 Ms Corr described writing the title track of her latest album, The Fool and The Scorpion, while in “floods of tears” after what she said was a traumatic personal event in her life.

Mr Bonnar is now in a relationship with Telma Ortiz, a sister of the Queen of Spain.
