Andrea Corr lleva la voz cantante. En el grupo y en la entrevista a cuatro. Ella y sus hermanos forman The Corrs, el grupo de pop irlandíés que en 2005, antes de anunciar una pausa que ha durado 10 años, cosechaba casi 40 millones de copias. Sharon, la violinista, cree que siguen sabiendo a The Corrs, y Caroline, pianista, corrige a sus hermanas cuando hablan español. El que parece imperturbable es Jim —guitarrista—, que, tan solo ante miradas inquisitivas, acaba respondiendo a una de las preguntas sin separarse de un cigarrillo electrónico. Estuvieron en Madrid para presentar su nuevo álbum, White Light. Ellas se mostraron cálidas y risueñas, íél, tí­mido y reservado, como si quisiera concederles el protagonismo a sus hermanas.
 
Necesitábamos hacer un descanso  para centrarnos en nuestra vida personal y familiar
 
Su último álbum antes del parón fue Home (2005), toda una declaración de intenciones: “Necesitábamos hacer un descanso, puede que demasiado largo, para centrarnos en nuestra vida personal y familiar”. Y tanto. Andrea y Sharon publicaron sencillos por separado —con mucho menos eco que el que conseguí­an con Breathless o con What can I do?—. Se han casado, han tenido hijos... La defensa de Jim de las teorí­as conspiranoicas del 11-S y su labor filantrópica junto a sus hermanas han dado algunos titulares en la prensa. Ahora el interíés que suscitan se centra más en la música.
 
White Light, que vio la luz el pasado noviembre, es una reflexión sobre la vida y el más allá. “Querí­amos que fuera algo positivo para la gente que lo escucha”, explica Caroline. “Hay muchos temas, pero el principal es la muerte”. Es entonces cuando viene a la memoria el legado de sus padres de quienes heredaron la música como profesión. Su madre falleció hace más de 10 años y su padre, la primavera pasada. Por eso, el concierto que la banda ofreció en Londres para anunciar su regreso fue para ellos inenarrable, como un torbellino que les dejó los sentimientos a flor de piel. “Volver a hacer un disco es como volver a grabar tu felicidad y para nosotros este es el mejor de todos”, cuenta Sharon.
 
El nombre del álbum, White Light —en español, Luz blanca—, responde a una de las frases del documental de Amy Winehouse en el que el cíélebre intíérprete estadounidense Tony Bennett reflexiona sobre la existencia: “La vida te enseñará cómo vivirla, si es que la vives”, dice sobre la voz del soul que murió en 2011 a los 27 años. Ligado a este pensamiento surgió el tí­tulo, que tiene una doble interpretación: de un lado, la luz blanca que, dicen, se ve al morir; del otro, la que representa la iluminación de los escenarios. “Lo que intentamos”, asegura Caroline, “es cantar nuestras canciones favoritas”. Como si fuera de una obviedad absoluta.
 
White Light, que tuvo su estreno el pasado mes de noviembre, es una reflexión sobre la vida y el más allá.
 
Ahora, tras casi una díécada sin subirse a un escenario juntos, los británicos serán los primeros que escucharán en directo a una de las bandas más populares de Europa. Será en enero, pero con condiciones: “No podemos dejar a nuestros hijos más de dos noches seguidas”, matiza Caroline. “Nos echan demasiado de menos”.

Los cuatro hermanos Corr han decidido que este 2015 que acaba se convierta en la fecha idónea para volver a trabajar juntos. Hace diez años que la banda irlandesa decidió cambiar los escenarios por una vida más familiar y algunos proyectos en solitario, pero la nostalgia de sus mejores años ha acabado aflorando para sorpresa de todos sus fans.
 
White Light es, como ellos mismos definen, el mejor disco de su carrera. Un total de 12 canciones que continúan moviíéndose bajo el ritmo pop con matices celtas que marcó sus inicios. Este trabajo fue concebido en los Metropolis Studios de Londres desde comienzos de este año y aunque sus pretensiones eran conservarlo en secreto durante varios meses, la prensa no dejó que fuera así­.
 
La muerte de su padre en abril de este año hace que este trabajo emane una luz especial, sin pretensiones de pesadumbre. Las letras son el reflejo de la positividad con la que afrontan la vida. Con esta energí­a decidieron volver a subirse juntos a un escenario para tocar las canciones que les hicieron vender más de 30 millones de discos en todo el mundo. El lugar elegido: Hyde Park en Londres.
 
Despuíés de diez años separados, ¿Por quíé volver a reunirse ahora?
 
Fue Caroline, ella tuvo la idea en este momento de volver a estar juntos, en realidad nunca dejamos la música, pero necesitábamos estar más centrados en nuestras vidas personales y la familia. Han sido diez años separados y de pronto Caroline nos hizo darnos cuenta de cuánto nos echábamos de menos. Todo ocurrió el año pasado, nos reunimos y comprobamos si aún podí­amos hacer algo musicalmente juntos, si aún tení­amos esa quí­mica.
 
Por eso ya llevaban desde principios de año trabajando en este disco. ¿Cuándo decidieron que era el momento de desvelar el secreto?
 
En realidad no lo hicimos nosotros, no fue nuestra decisión, lo hizo un periódico en Irlanda sin que nosotros diíéramos el consentimiento. Querí­amos explorar la música sin ninguna presión y asegurarnos de que realmente seguí­amos funcionando en conjunto musicalmente, estábamos divirtiíéndonos y todo iba de maravilla, pero antes de descubrir eso no querí­amos decí­rselo a los fans porque no estábamos seguros de cómo iba a ser. Pero de pronto un periódico de Irlanda lo supo y decidió sacarlo a la luz. Entonces ya no habí­a motivo para negarlo.

Volvieron a tocar juntos en Hyde Park con las canciones que les llevaron a lo más alto. ¿Cómo se sintieron?
 
Fue algo increí­ble, la primera vez despuíés de 10 años que volví­amos a estar juntos sobre un escenario. Aunque Caroline tomó la decisión, todos tení­amos la incertidumbre que cómo serí­a. Cuando salimos al escenario y vimos a toda esa gente esperándonos fue increí­ble, aún seguí­an aclamando nuestras canciones. Fue una experiencia totalmente alegre y emocionante.
 
¿De quíé forma han madurado? Porque ahora todos tienen familias de las que ocuparse.
 
Sí­, estamos muy cansados. Ahora trabajamos de una forma diferente porque sólo podemos juntarnos cuando todos estamos disponibles, y esta fue una de las razones por las que no hemos estado antes juntos, para no tener a nuestros hijos lejos durante meses. Así­ que al final, trabajamos y vamos a casa constantemente, la única forma de que esto funcione es que trabajes intensamente cuando estás en ello, así­ tienes algo de tiempo despuíés. De todos modos, esto es lo que queremos hacer y lo tenemos claro. Tambiíén creo que todos estaremos de acuerdo es que es más complicado cuidar de nuestros hijos que ensayar. Es algo muy bonito pero emocionalmente muy cansado, a veces pensamos que cuando estamos en el trabajo realmente tenemos vida.
 
En sus trabajos en solitario, ¿echaban de menos al resto?
 
Tenemos algo muy bueno juntos, una magia especial y creo que la música es mejor cuando trabajamos juntos. Además, nos sentimos muy solitarios al hacer música individualmente y subir a un escenario sin los demás, en grupo ejercemos una especie de protección sobre el resto. Por lo tanto, sí­ nos echábamos de menos y juntos estamos mejor.
 
La luz inunda este álbum. ¿De dónde nacen sus canciones?
 
Ha ocurrido algo muy importante en nuestras vidas durante el tiempo en el que pensamos en grabar este disco. Nuestro padre murió inesperadamente a comienzos de este año. Así­ que hablamos sobre todo de la vida y la muerte. No pretendemos ser melancólicos, es un álbum muy luminoso que se refiere a lo que existe despuíés de morir. El disco tambiíén define cómo nos sentimos en este momento y nos consideramos muy afortunados y positivos.
 
¿Es este disco el mejor de su carrera?
 
Sí­, totalmente. Hay que poner el corazón en todo lo que haces y nosotros lo hemos hecho en este álbum, está trabajado con pasión.
 
Siempre se han referido a España con mucho aprecio. ¿Conservan el cariño por nuestro paí­s?
 
Los españoles y los irlandeses somos personas muy parecidas, tenemos la música celta en nuestras raí­ces. Además somos muy familiares, y preferimos la tolerancia al conservadurismo. Así­ que nuestros valores nos unen, todo es más sencillo cuando lo simplificas. Por supuesto seguimos amando vuestro vino y las mejores tapas del mundo (risas).
 
Así­ que tienen pensado volver a tocar aquí­...
 
El tour ahora mismo sólo está programado por el Reino Unido con algunas fechas, despuíés volveremos a casa con nuestros niños porque son los que más nos necesitan. Pero claro que queremos volver a España y lo haremos.

The Corrs are back in Liverpool this month - and it feels as though they've never been away.

Between 1995 - when The Corrs released their debut offering Forgiven, Not Forgotten - and 2005, when their fifth record Home was launched, the band saw album sales of more than 40 million.

Then - Jim, Sharon, Caroline and Andrea all but disappeared.

Now, 10 years on, they’re back with a new album, White Light, which entered the UK charts at No 11, proving there are still plenty of people who care about what The Corrs are up to.

The siblings have been busy promoting the record over the past four of five months, and youngest Corr and singer, Andrea, can’t help but notice the change of pace.

“‘Where am I?’ That’s something I ask myself every day now,” says the 41-year-old. “Where am I, what am I doing here and where are my babies?”

Since the hiatus, Andrea’s had two children - three-year-old Jean and Brett Jr who’s just turned one - with husband Brett Desmond, who she married in 2009.

She says the band’s reunion is only a recent plan, from January 2015, when Caroline suggested they try to write some new music.

“We all missed being in the band, but she was the one who got us together. We had gone off the radar, and there was no record company involvement or anything like that. No one knew we were going to make a comeback.

“And no one was more surprised than me,” she continues. “If you would have said to me that we were going to get back together this time last year, I’d have said, ‘What are you talking about?’

“But if one of us had reservations, we wouldn’t be here either. It’s all four of us, or none at all.”

There's obviously a lot of stuff that's appeared elsewhere, but also some background on their reforming and writing - 'White Light' itself could be heard as a meditation on either the goldfish bowl of stardom or the afterlife, though for Andrea it's the latter. "If it provokes a number of things, then as far as I'm concerned it's good. It is open to interpretation, and ambiguous to a degree".

It was Jim who composed the plaintive piano part for 'Ellis Island'. " It sounded so beautiful to us girls, we messed around with it for a little bit... so very often in the evening, when I'd put the kids to bed, I would go off and write the lyrics and Jim had said 'it would be lovely it was about Ireland' because the music was so Irish-y. Anyway, I was at home that evening and had thought about it. Then I thought about Ellis Island and it just came. Obviously many of us have ancestors that probably came off those ships. I also lived in America, I only came back last September (2014?). I lived in Washington DC for three years, I had both my children there. So in a way I really did feel the Irish girl in America and the welcome. I just felt gratitude for that welcome, for every refugee given a chance, basically".

ANDREA Corr has been left breathless as she balances her life as a devoted mum with being a performing popstar again.

The singer revealed how she brought her kids to school in London this week and then drove to Birmingham to perform to 7,000 fans ecstatic to see The Corrs performing again.

But the 41-year-old said the mixing of being a mum and pop singer has made her the happiest she has ever been as the front woman of The Corrs.

Andrea Corr told the Irish Sun: “Before the band seemed so overwhelming and all consuming. Now I feel I have both sides to my life which makes me appreciate doing a job I love.

“It felt mad to be dropping the kids to school, and then playing a gig in Birmingham that night. I jumped into a car straight after. It’s a schizophrenic life but it keeps me normal.”

The Corrs received an incredible reception in Birmingham’s massive Genting Arena on the opening night of their White Light tour on Tuesday night.

Andrea said: “We got such a welcome. From the first song we played everybody was on their feet.

“It was incredible looking out and seeing the thousands of people who’ve come out to see us. It’s so nice they have come back to see us play because we wouldn’t be back on the road with them.”

Fans turning up to see The Corrs first live dates in over a decade have been rewarded with a greatest hits show, and only a few numbers from their new album thrown in.

But surprisingly, brand new single I Do What I Like was one of the best received songs of the night.

Jim Corr told the Irish Sun: “Birmingham was brilliant. We couldn’t have wished for a better place to do a full comeback show.”

Many of the fans commented on how Andrea, Sharon, Jim and Jim looked remain virtually unchanged after taking their long break to raise families and pursue solo careers.

But Andrea admits it does feel different for the siblings on stage.

She said: “The weirdness starts the moment we drive up to the venue just like we did years ago.

“A part of me thinks, ‘well this is normal’ but in another way, it feels strange because it’s so normal.

“Having both sides to my life, and we all do now, means we can enjoy it and know the getting up on stage and performing is a good moment.”

It was Cardiff’s turn to welcome The Corrs last night before big comeback dates in London , Manchester and Glasgow.

However the band themselves admit their nerves will really kick in later this month when they return to Ireland to play The 3Arena on January 28 and Belfast’s SSE Arena on January 29th.

Andrea said: “There’s always a feeling about doing a gig back home in Ireland.

“Both shows will be special because we will have friends and family from Dundalk in Dublin and Belfast. We’re expecting a warm reception.”

It was the Irish Sun which first revealed last April that The Corrs were to reform, and we found out they had lost none of their family magic when we saw them perform a secret show with only their voices and a fiddle, in Doyle bar on D’Olier Street last November.

Andrea revealed that reaction to that acoustic session had resulted in The Corrs adding a “pub gig” section to their stadium shows.

Andrea explained: “Sometimes doing things with just the bare bones has an honesty and an impact. We always worked so hard, particularly on our new album, to get it right and I really feel these shows are bringing the magic back.”

The comeback shows will continue as the band travel into Europe during the summer promoting their new White Light album.

Quizzed as to whether The Corrs plan to continue beyond this record, Andrea said: “There is no game plan but we are all happy, out playing.

“There is no plan to quickly record another follow up record after this one. I’d say as long as we all happy we will continue. And we are all very, very happy.”

The Corrs sold more than 45 million records across the globe with their second album Talk on Corners the bestselling album in the UK in 1998, selling 2.9 million copies and spawning four top ten singles.

The impetus for the Dundalk band to get back together were individual members writing new material they wanted to release.

A source told the Irish Sun: “Andrea came up with such a fantastic song last year, when she played it to friends, they told her she would crazy to give it away to another artist.

“Jim has been enjoying a creative burst and has come up with some classic pop hooks and guita riffs, that simply belong on the radio.

“And Sharon, who penned monster Corrs hits So Young and Radio, has never stopped writing or touring as a solo artist, and has been stockpiling songs for this moment.”
